“Little Talks” – Of Monsters and Men
Of Monsters and Men is a six piece indie folk/indie pop band from Iceland. The band is composed of co-singer/guitarist Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir, co-singer/guitarist Ragnar “Raggi” Þórhallsson, guitarist Brynjar Leifsson, drummer Arnar Rósenkranz Hilmarsson, piano/accordion player Árni Guðjónsson, and bassist Kristján Páll Kristjánsson. The band signed with Record Records in February 2011 for the release of their debut album in Iceland. In August of 2011, Philadelphia’s Radio 104.5 began playing “Little Talks” and propelled the band to nationwide popularity.
With enormous success in the US and in Iceland the band was able to secure a record deal with Universal, and in April 2012 released their first album titled My Head is an Animal.
“Little Talks,” is one of two singles the band has released, and it is a beautiful example of the Modern Folk revival the world is currently experiencing. The music video is also a creative masterpiece, but has very little connection to the actual meaning of the song.
This is a song that could have many meanings. The two people I asked to tell me what they thought gave me two very different answers. What does this song mean to you?
