“Young Folks”- Peter Bjorn and John
Peter Bjorn and John is a Swedish indie rock band, formed in Stockholm in 1999. The band is named after the first names of the band’s members: Peter Morén (vocals, guitar and harmonica), Björn Yttling (bass guitar, keyboards and vocals) and John Eriksson (drums, percussion and vocals). Morén and Yttling began playing music with each other while in high school. Their first band disbanded after they moved to Stockholm, where they met Eriksson in 1999 to form Peter, Björn and John.
The band’s third album, Writer’s Block (2006) became a minor international hit, with “Young Folks,” reaching into the top 20 charts in both the UK and Australia. The song is about a man who has a bad past, and explains to his lovely friend that usually when he divulges his history people leave him. This girl is different however, and decides to stick it out. “Young Folks,” is a heartwarming, and catchy song. However, as my friend Tork will agree, the best part of this song is the whistling. I’m a sucker for whistling.
