“Sing For The Moment” – Eminem
Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972), better known by his stage name Eminem and by his alter ego Slim Shady, is an American rapper, record producer, songwriter and actor. Eminem is one of the best-selling artists in the world and is the best selling artist of the 2000s.He has been listed and ranked as one of the greatest artists of all time by many magazines including the Rolling Stone magazine which has ranked him 82nd on its list of The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. The same magazine has declared him The King of Hip Hop. Including his work with D12 and Bad Meets Evil, Eminem has achieved ten number-one albums on the Billboard 200. He has sold more than 42 million tracks and 41.5 million albums in the United States, and nearly 90 million albums worldwide.
Eminem is also one of the most controversial musicians in recent history. His songs vividly, graphically, and sometimes violently illustrate his opinion on almost every subject imaginable, ranging from rape and murder to how to raise his daughter Hailie (“Hailie’s Song” – The Eminem Show). Eminems’ lyrics chronicle a life of drug addiction, failed marriage, and a troubled past filled with assaults, suicide attempts, and legal problems. He has been sued at least 8 times because of his lyrics, and has had numerous widely publicized disagreements with artists such as Mariah Carey, Moby, Michael Jackson, and plenty more.
The emotion that Eminem puts forward in most of his songs is, in my opinion, almost unmatched. You can feel the struggles he has faced, suffer the lows he has been through, and marvel at the joys of success and fatherhood. Issues that seem complicated become simpler, and problems that you once thought inconsequential become of pivotal importance. Whether he makes you cringe or cry, we all must stand in awe of Marshall Mathers.
