“Julia” – The Very Best
The Very Best is a collaboration between London based DJ/production duo Radioclit and Esau Mwamwaya (lead vocals). Their music has been described as an Afro-Western mix of dance, hiphop, pop and the traditional music of Malawi.
Esau Mwamwaya was born in Mzuzu, Malawi, but grew up in the capital, Lilongwe, where he played drums in various bands. In 1999 he moved to London and while running a second-hand furniture shop in Clapton, East London, Esau sold a bicycle to the producer from the band Radioclit, Etienne Tron. Radioclit’s studio was on the same street as Esau’s shop, and eventually, Esau became friends with both Tron and Johan Karlberg aka Radioclit.
We are seeing more and more genres adopting parts of electronica, and this song is a perfect example. If you were plopped into the middle of “Julia,” your opinion would vary enormously from having listened to the song from the beginning. This blending of sounds is where new genres come from, and I am really excited to see what the combination of techno, hip hop, rock, and dub-step will render in the coming years. For now, crank it up and have a great Sunday!
