“Her Morning Elegance” – Oren Lavie

“Her Morning Elegance” went mildly viral on the interwebs when it came out a few years back. Nothing huge mind you, with 23 million views, it was more of a passing common cold as compared to Gangnam’s continuing Ebola/Smallpox hybrid pandemic status on the viral rating scale. Catchy enough though, that I saw it years ago and remembered it today when thinking of songs I could post.

Oren Lavie was born and raised in Tel Aviv until 1998, when he moved to London to study theatre at London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. After he graduated, he moved first to New York and then to Berlin as he worked in theatre, writing songs and directing plays. Over the years, he started focusing more and more on his music. He recorded his first album, The Opposite Side Of The Sea, in Berlin and released it under his own label in Europe in 2007, and in the US in 2009.

I remember when I first saw the video, thinking that whoever had directed it had done a fantastic job of capturing the song in the frames. Of course, with Lavie’s background in theatre production, it comes as no surprise that he not only wrote and sang the song, but also produced and co-directed the video. In 2010, “Her Morning Elegance” was nominated for the “Best Short Form Music Video” Grammy, but lost out to “Boom Boom Pow” by The Black Eyed Peas. Go figure.

Hope this song can bring a little bit of elegance to your morning, I know I need all the help I can get in that category.
