“Palladium” – Weather Report

Today’s post comes to you from the midst of a stormy New England. With today’s impending Noreaster, I figured I would branch out of the typical electronic music genre and give you a little sampling of the musical genius that is Weather Report.

This American jazz fusion group was co-lead by keyboardist Joe Zawinul and saxophone extraordinaire, Wayne Shorter. Weather Report has been considered one of the pre-eminent jazz fusion bands to emerge from the 70s. Weather Report has stood the test of time as they continually change up personell while redefining the genre they helped create. Their free, extended improvisational method of play eventually moved towards a groove-oriented and pre-structured  style that is epitomized by the song every high school jazz band has to play at one point or another, Birdland.

If you’re on the East Coast, let “Palladium” help you stay calm in the coming days of tumultuous weather. To find out more about the members of Weather Report, please see the links above and continue to explore their massive repertoire of fantastic music.
